The Printing Museum Tokyo is located on the first and second floors of the Toppan Printing building. Surrounding the museum are historical printing-related industries, such as Dangahara Paper, Nikko Printing, and Marugame Paper, which preserve the traditional legacy of the area. Nestled in the serene streets of Bunkyo, the museum harmoniously integrates with the cultural fabric of its surroundings while showcasing the world of printing.

I aim to utilize the museum’s exterior spaces to create a place where visitors can reflect on the history and profound significance of the act of printing. Through this space, I hope to provide an opportunity for people to rediscover how printing technology and culture have shaped our history and everyday lives.

Analysis of Area

Spatially, the Printing Museum is located in the dense urban environment of Bunkyo Ward, surrounded by the printing industry and a high-rise building with a high floor-area ratio, so a visually generous space around it is desirable. The site is located to the south of the entrance and is limited to open space to the south, where pedestrian traffic density is relatively low. This space can be utilised in a menhaden-y manner.
